Paying attention and being genuine

I just read a book summary of “Leading with Vulnerability” by Jacob Morgan on getAbstract, and it really got me thinking. Among the behaviors exhibited by vulnerable leaders, two particularly resonated with me: paying attention and being genuine.

Reflecting on past experiences, I’ve sat through too many meetings feeling disappointed because some of the leaders seemed more focused on checking their mailboxes than participating in the conversation. At networking events, it’s frustrating to encounter people who are just going through the motions—you know, those who offer a smile and a nod but don’t truly engage. It’s as if they’re surrounded by an invisible barrier that whispers, “I’m not open to trust.”

I’ve always longed for straightforward, real interactions—genuine ones, free from oversized egos or insincere politeness. After all, we come together for a purpose, don’t we? Let’s make it meaningful.

Jacob Morgan’s insights have shown me that I’m not alone in feeling this way.

As a final note, whether you’re into podcasts or prefer reading, I suggest checking out the podcast or newsletter titled “Future Ready Leadership With Jacob.” It’s a great resource for anyone looking to stay ahead in #leadership.
